Biodiversity of the Potato

Andean-potatoes-300x201 At the International Potato Center (CIP), there is a collection of 4235 native potato cultivars of the Andean region.  CIP also has a large collection of potato wild species.  These rich genetic resources are utilized by potato breeders around the world to develop all kinds of new potato varieties.  The color, taste, shape and biochemical properties all can be improved through the use of these native cultivars.  www.cipotato.org/genebank
