04 Jun Cold Temperature Induced Phosphorus Deficiency
The picture shows a potato plant’s response to cold spring weather.
Note the purple leaves. These show phosphorus (P) deficiency due to the P not being readily taken up by the plant under low temperatures. There is also some frost bite after 3 nights of -1C temperatures. The potato is more hardy than maize (corn) because the potato is from the cold, high Andes of Peru.
